Abstract

The implementation of the independent curriculum brought many changes to the curriculum structure in educational units. The purpose of this research is to find out the capacity of counseling teachers in the elimination of majors at the senior high school level. This research is a comparative descriptive study conducted in West Coast District, Muaro Jambi Regency, Gunung Kidul Regency, Sleman Regency and Bantul Regency. Data collection is done by observation and interviews. Data were analyzed using data triangulation. The results of the study show that the most important efforts that can be made in strengthening the capacity of guidance and counseling teachers in assisting students, include providing mentoring guides to students, training/workshops mapping students' interests, talents and aspirations, as well as optimizing the role of the learning community and encouraging schools with external parties such as university.
